Workshop Day Two

The second day will build on the first with a focus on preparing treatment plans for individual children with several diagnoses and at five levels of development.


Using the ARM (Adult child relationship Map) to design treatment programs.

  1. Building and interactive life
  2. Building a nonverbal communicative life
  3. Building a social life with language
  4. Building a conversational life
  5. Building a civil and socially appropriate life.

Special populations Applications of Communicating Partners to the following populations.

Special problems and particular foci of treatment.

  1. Childhood autism- preverbal
  2. Childhood autism -verbal
  3. Aspergers syndrome
  4. Down syndrome and other several oral motor concerns
  5. Behavioral disorders
  6. Late-talking children with otherwise typical development

C. Tools for building a daily Interactive life

  • The I-Map: a practical guide for learning to communicate in daily routines.
  • Conversation routines: practical models for preverbal and verbal children
  • Daily activity diaries for preverbal and verbal children

D. Live discussions on analyses of video taped interactions with a variety of children.

E. Making classrooms more social and communicative. Establishing 'conversation routines' as the key to a curriculum.
